Well, Here We Are

Our original plan was to launch an announcement website at the start of 2023 in order to gauge interest in our concept and start bringing people onto our waitlist for the Beta.

But that plan got knocked off course like a Tesla on autopilot when Elon Musk moved forward with his irrational purchase of Twitter. As a big fan of Twitter and a very active user, it was very disheartening to see just how quickly Musk started running it into the ground.

We considered moving up our announcement date when the purchase was actually finalized, but thought surely we could make it through the end of the year. Now it seems with Twitter employees, those left anyway, locked out of Twitter HQ, the platform might be on its last legs.

Since Musk become the new owner, many Twitter users have left the platform and many more have been looking for a good alternative. So even though Cuota doesn’t have a working prototype ready, we thought it would be good to at least put it out there that we’re in development and let everyone see if this little project of ours would be something they’d be interested in.

Cuota wasn’t originally conceive as a replacement for Twitter, though. I think it would certainly fill that void, but the goal was much bigger than that. We wanted to create a social media platform that could deliver on all the needs of social media, but in a way that puts the user first. Our guiding principle is that Cuota will never have a profit motive because the user will always come first.

We plan to have several features that Twitter doesn’t have, but we hope that former Twitter users will still find Cuota useful. We want Cuota to very much be a global townhall, which is why universal verification and active moderation are essential to our vision for the platform. And we mean real verification, not just an $8 checkmark. Cuota will never be a home for troll farms and spam bots, no matter how many $8 bills they might have.

I hope you’ll bear with us as we put more of our vision together on this website. It is unfortunately rushed because we aren’t sure Twitter will even be around tomorrow. You can follow along our updates here as we share more about the project in progress and respond to people’s questions and suggestions for the Cuota platform.

In the meantime, be sure to sign up for the Waitlist if you want to be one of the first users in our Beta. And if you’d like to help out by donating money or time to the cause, we’d appreciate it!
