This is our development roadmap to give you sense of where we’d like to take Cuota long-term. For a list of features we have planned for the Beta, check out our Features page.
These features below will most likely not be available during the Beta, but it is our hope to bring them on at some point after. Because they are longer term goals, the precise details are more likely to change as we get around to actively developing them.
Video Content
We understand that video content is very important in modern social media, particularly for younger people. We want to include video content natively within the platform and allow users to upload their own videos, but video does create a significant technical hurdle as well as additional moderation challenges.
We also don’t want to simply reinvent the wheel when it comes to video. Instagram, Facebook and YouTube are all copying TikTok in their own fashion, and we want to make sure that we are bringing something new and interesting to our own implementation of video on the platform. For that reason, we want to take time to really think about how we can improve upon what’s come before rather than simply replicating it.
Brands and Organizations
We may include access to brands and organizations in some fashion in the Beta, but it is unlikely that this would be fully rolled out until later. The reason for this is that the platform is not intended as a place for businesses to come and sell our users things. Still, we know that users can find benefit in connecting with the brands and organizations they love. So we want to make sure we have a thoughtful way of implementing this.
We will also likely charge for-profit businesses for using the platform. Government and non-profit organizations would not be charged.
There will certainly be some differences between how a brand profile can interact on the platform and how a personal profile can. So we want to take some time to consider what will be best for our users as we design the functionality for brands and organizations.
Monetization for Content Creators
For decades, tech companies have profited off of the work of their users and community. People interact with social media for the content which is created by the users themselves, but the users do not get a share in the profit.
We want to make it easy for content creators to monetize their content on our platform by offering a way for users to become paid subscribers or give one-time donations to their favorite creators.
Our “Court” feature would easily allow creators to limit content to paid subscribers, and we want to explore other features that would be useful for creators.
We may also look into options for sharing ad revenue with our users, but will want to figure out the best approach to this that would reward people based on effort and commitment while also not exploiting our users in our advertising model.
